The practice

The 30a Wimpole Street Practice was founded 75 years ago by James Dewe-Mathews’ father when he returned from studying at the University of Harvard Dental School. In 1944 the practice moved to 110 Harley Street, on the Howard de Walden Estate, where it remained until 1984. When James returned from studying in the USA in 1975, he joined the practice. After his father retired, the practice moved to 35 Harley Street, where it remained for the next 25 years, until the lease ended.

In 2009 James took on an entire building in Wimpole Street, where he had always dreamt of having his own Laboratory and the Periodontist/Implant surgeon he had worked with for the past 25 years, all under one roof.

30a Wimpole Street is an iconic Grade 2 listed Arts and Crafts stone clad building, built in 1912. It was designed by an eminent architect of the time, Sir Bannister Fletcher, who was President of the RIBA, and author of one of the seminal works on the History of Architecture.

The building was fully restored by the Howard de Walden Estate prior to James moving in, and retains many wonderful period features. It has been fully equipped with state of the art equipment imported from the USA. There are 7 surgeries, over three floors, with the periodontist/ implant surgeon having the whole of one floor, and there is a separate dedicated central sterilising facility. The in-house dental laboratory (Lab 39) is in the basement.30a Wimpole Street is probably unique in central London in being able to offer all these facilities under one roof.
